Current and Electric Circuits :: Problem 1

Problem 1: A certain battery has rated at 80 ampere hour. How many coulombs of charge can this battery supply?

Solution:

Step: 1 Overview

Electric current:
Electric current is a flow of charge (electrons), it can also be defined as amount of charge passes through any section of a conductor in one second.
Equation of electric current will be:
I=Q/t where I is a electric current, Q is amount of charge passing through any section and t is time required by this amount of charge to pass.

Step: 2 Calculation

Given:
I=80A
t=1hour=60x60seconds=3600seconds.
Required:
Q=?
Solution:
We know that:
I=Q/t
Q=It
Q=(80A)(3600s)
Q=288000C or 2.88x105 (Ans)
