Problem 9: Find the change in volume of an aluminium sphere of 0.4m radius when it is heated from 0oC to 100oC.
Solution:
Step: 1 Overview
See the overview of
problem 2.
Step: 2 Calculation
Given:
r=0.4m
T1=0oC
T2=100oC
ΔT=100-0=100oC
β (for aluminium)= 7.2x10-5
Solutions:
We know that:
Volume of sphere = 4.19r3
V = 4.19(0.4)3
V = 4.19(0.064)
V = 0.26816
Also we know that:
ΔV = βVΔT
ΔV = (7.2x10-5)(0.26816)(100)
ΔV = 0.00193m3 (Ans)
